Leading CCTV brand Dahua has released the new NVR V5 NEXT firmware update for supported NVR5XXX-AI-ANZ models, representing one of the most significant changes to the platform in recent years.

This update moves well beyond the previous UI 4.0 design, delivering a major refresh to the user interface and overall workflow while leaving core recording and camera performance unchanged.
The most noticeable change is the completely redesigned graphical interface. V5 NEXT introduces a modular layout with separate applications for Preview, Playback, Events, AI, PTZ, and Settings. Navigation now works in a browser-style tab format, allowing faster switching between tasks. Menus have been simplified, with cleaner right-click options and clearer sub-menu access, making day-to-day operation more intuitive.
Startup and first-time setup have also been improved. Dahua reports startup times up to 22 percent faster, along with a more streamlined initial configuration process. The system now supports region-based auto configuration, automatically setting language, video standards, time zone, and daylight saving. Real-time password compliance guidance is built into setup, and the overall process requires roughly 30 percent fewer clicks than UI 4.0.
Camera management has been redesigned around real-world scenarios. Cameras can now be grouped by location or use case, such as yards, carparks, or building levels. These groups can be viewed instantly with one-click group previews, removing the need to manually create layouts. Custom View templates are easier to create, bind, and activate, giving operators greater flexibility with less setup time.
Event and alarm handling has seen major improvements. A real-time Events dashboard allows operators to verify incidents live, bookmark them, and close them once resolved. A new alarm pop-up window clearly displays what happened, where it occurred, and when, with instant access to the relevant video. Channel-based event configuration has also been refined, making it easier to see which features are available on each channel.
Playback and search functions have been unified into a single portal. General video, event footage, AcuPick pre-search results, and video clips can now all be accessed from one place. The Video Clip feature allows faster narrowing of footage by defined time blocks, reducing the time required to locate key moments.
The update also expands AI and integration capabilities. An AI dashboard provides a clear overview of enabled features and current system load. Support for ONVIF Profile M enables third-party metadata and AI event integration, while HTTP Push allows simple and secure transmission of events to third-party platforms. A Vehicle Entrance and Exit module is available on supported models, and integration with third-party alarm systems using SIA is listed as under planning.
This firmware update represents a substantial change for users familiar with Dahua’s previous interface. While it brings meaningful efficiency and usability improvements, some users may need assistance adjusting to the new layout and workflows.
